HOW IT HAPPENED:

BOT 2nd | Following a pair of shut-out innings to open the ball game by starting pitcher Emily Hess, the Sharks got on the board first, striking for three runs in the home half of the second. Following a lead-off double by Madison Fine and a bunt single by Allie Janowiak, Fine would come around to score on an error by the MC catcher. Another bunt single – this time by Kerstyn Shaw – put runners on the corners still with nobody out when a well-executed sacrifice bunt by Nicole Hayslip plated Janowiak to extend the early lead to 2-0. Samantha Burke would record the Sharks' third bunt single of the inning before Ryleigh Langwell handed NSU a 3-0 advantage on an RBI-single down the leftfield line.

BOT 3rd | After a walk and a steal by Tia Williams, Janowiak tallied her second hit in as many innings to stretch the margin to 4-0. With two away, Hayslip extended the inning with a walk before a Burke single scored not only Janowiak, but also Hayslip thanks to an error by the MC centerfielder.

TOP 6th | Hess would set down 10 straight batters until a two-out single ended the streak in the sixth. Following a stolen base and a wild pitch, the Choctaws would erase the shutout on an RBI-single to narrow the gap to 6-1.

TOP 7th | The Choctaws added a two-run homer in the seventh, but Hess would settle back in for the final three outs to finish off the complete-game effort.

INSIDE THE STATS:
  • Janowiak accounted for three of NSU's eight hits, finishing a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate while tallying one RBI and two runs scored.
  • Just one day after failing to record an out, Hess struck out four in her first complete game of the young season,
  • The Sharks swiped four bases in the win, collecting a stolen base each from Janowiak, Langwell, Williams and Alexis Smith.
  • The 4-9 hitters combined for all eight of NSU's hits.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • Following a 1-for-1 performance at the plate, Langwell has now opened the season with a three-game hit streak.
  • MC starter Avery Barnett was pulled in the third inning just one day after tossing a five-hit complete game in a win over Saint Leo.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP (GAME TWO)
Score: Nova Southeastern 6 (W: K. Ellard, 2-0), No. 23 Alabama-Huntsville 1 (L: L. Murphy, 1-1)
Records: Nova Southeastern (3-1), No. 23 Alabama-Huntsville (2-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

TOP 1st | The Sharks wasted no time setting the tone against the nation's 23rd-ranked team, as three of the first four batters reached base safely. After a Janowiak RBI-groundout put NSU on the board, Shaw singled down the rightfield line, scoring both Williams and Fine to lift the Sharks to an early 3-0 lead.

TOP 6th | With Katelyn Ellard holding on to a no-hit bid, NSU tacked on three more runs in the top of the sixth. Janowiak continued her impressive day at the plate with a two-run double before Hayslip lifted a sac fly to left to build the advantage to 6-0 in favor of the Sharks.

BOT 6th | Ellard's chance at a no-hitter, as well as a shutout, was erased in the sixth after the Chargers tallied three singles to make it a 6-1 game.

BOT 7th | Ellard retired the side in order to secure her second complete-game victory in as many days.

INSIDE THE STATS:
  • After the bottom of the order did much of the heavy lifting in game one Sunday, the top of the order picked up the slack in game two, as 1-6 in the order combined to register all nine NSU hits.
  • Janowiak, Williams and Sydney Lageyre notched two hits apiece, with Janowiak coming away with three RBI.
  • NSU earned four stolen bases once again, two credited to Lageyre.
  • Ellard failed to issue a single walk in the effort.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • Sunday marked the first ranked win for the program since defeating No. 12 North Georgia back on Feb. 21, 2020.
